HELICOPTER FLIGHT TRAINING SCHOOL

Group 3 Aviation has been dedicated to flight training since 1993, and believes our success has come from the personalized training and services we provide. We are service oriented and professional. Students are not just numbers, but an important part of our family. With over 20 years of experience in aviation, its founders have developed a philosophy that aviation should be a safe and enjoyable experience.

Group 3 Aviation Alaska is based at Merrill Field in Anchorage. We train pilots above industry standards in a range of environments, including the complex airspace around Anchorage as well as remote "off airport" training. Such diversification allows our students a real-world view of commercial operations within the region. Off airport training environments include coastal grasslands, river valleys, woodland, mountains, snowfields and glaciers - all ideal for helicopters. Anchorage has varied weather throughout the year, and flight training is continued year round. Varied weather, along with challenging and diverse terrain can make the difference.

Group 3 Aviation is a full-service flight school that offers a variety of flight training packages in helicopters. The training at Group 3 Aviation is conducted under the authority of the school's Part 141 Air Agency Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. In order to obtain a Part 141 Air Agency Certificate Group 3 Aviation has to meet and maintain strict requirements regarding facilities, qualifications of staff, training syllabi, record keeping, and aircraft maintenance. Group 3 Aviation has annual facility inspections, aircraft and records inspections as well as occasional spot checks by the FAA. The school must maintain a first time pass rate of at least 80% and is under frequent and thorough oversight by inspectors from the local FAA office. Group 3 Aviation achieved its FAA Part 141 Approval in 2002. We are also VA approved and eligible to train veterans, service members and reservists that want to obtain VA educational assistance for flight training in any of our approved courses.

Part 141 vs. Part 61

Not all flight schools are Part 141. Schools that are not 141 are technically not "flight schools" but facilities that rent aircraft to certificated flight instructors. These facilities train under the less stringent Part 61 rules, are not subject to minimum standards, and are not inspected by the FAA. A facility that provides flight training under Part 61 should be researched carefully as they are not subject to any FAA oversight.

The advantages of attending an FAA Approved flight school:

  • You will receive well-structured and comprehensive course training.
  • You will save on costs: the FAA grants Part 141 flight schools important concessions in reduced course hours compared to Part 61 type of training.
  • You will have industry recognition by commercial operators who know and value the high level of training received at 141 schools.

Group 3 Aviation realizes that not all individual student's training needs can be categorized under one of our FAA Approved courses. We offer Part 61 training for such circumstances and guarantee the training will be carried out with the same high standards required through our Part 141 courses.
