FAA Testing

Accepting new enrollments at Group 3 Los Angeles.

Group 3 Aviation offers a few tips on how to prepare for your FAA Knowledge Test:

We recommend one-on-one ground school with your airplane or helicopter flight instructor. Ground training is not strictly "prep" for the required test. Ground school is where a student acquires the aeronautical knowledge prescribed in the FARs for all pilots of all classes. Your flight Instructor will be the one responsible for endorsing you per Federal Aviation Regulations.

Group 3 Aviation recommends purchasing one of the following options for home study:

ASA Test Preparation Book - These books are a pilot's best bet. The same material as the Test Guide is included, along with explanations for incorrect answers. All of the questions in the FAA Knowledge Test are included here and have been arranged into chapters based on subject matter. Topical study, in which similar material is covered under a common subject heading, promotes better understanding, aids recall, and thus provides a more efficient study guide. For either home study or classroom use.

ASA Test Preparation on CDROM - Using the Microsoft Windows graphic environment, these programs are designed to prepare students for the FAA Knowledge Exams. In the testing mode, random FAA questions are computer-selected to simulate the FAA Exam, providing an unlimited number of different test combinations. Built-in Help files, tutorial with explanations, scoring, and personal performance graphs allow students to study specific subject matter. The pilot tests include the Computerized Testing Supplement (containing the FAA legends, figures, and full-color maps), just like the one issued at the testing centers.

ASA's Test Prep Series, with books for Pilot Certificates and Ratings, includes the exact FAA questions and answer stems, explanations for correct and incorrect answers, references for all aircraft categories (airplane, rotorcraft, glider, and lighter-than-air), arranged in chapters based on subject matter. Each chapter includes supplementary study text to prepare students for their exams efficiently and thoroughly. Each title in the Test Prep Series comes bundled with the same Computer Testing Supplement that applicants will use when they take their FAA Knowledge Exam. This full-color book includes all the figures, charts, diagrams and legends needed to study for - and pass - each exam.

  • FAA Computer Testing Supplement is bundled with every test book so you will become accustomed to referring to the FAA Figures and Legends as you will during the test. This is the same book you will be issued at the testing center.
  • The FAA tests are on a one-year cycle, with changes made up to 3 times a year. ASA has the most current information by publishing the books in July of each year, posting updates on the ASA website that show changes made to the test questions, and providing a free e-mail Subscription Service for automatic notification when updates are available.
  • ASA's Test Preps contain the FAA questions and answer stems - plus answers, explanations (for both correct and incorrect answers), references, and FAA subject codes. Chapter text and illustrations help you more fully understand the concepts.
  • The questions are arranged into chapters based on subject matter to promote better understanding, aid recall, and thus provide a more efficient study guide.
  • ASA test books include all the questions: airplane, rotorcraft, glider, and lighter-than-air categories are all included, and the questions are identified as to which test they apply.
